D-backs recall RHP Jon Duplantier from Reno, option Taylor Clarke

The Arizona Diamondbacks recalled top pitching prospect Jon Duplantier from Triple-A Reno on Thursday.

The team also announced that pitcher Taylor Clarke, who started Tuesday in a loss to the Tampa Bay Rays, was optioned to Reno.

Duplantier will be in his third stint with the Diamondbacks this season, his debut year in the major leagues. In three outings, he has pitched eight innings without allowing a run on three hits, four walks and seven strikeouts.

Though only appearing in relief for the D-backs, all four of Duplantier’s appearances in Reno this year have been starts. In those four outings, Duplantier owns a 3.86 ERA, having allowed four earned runs in 9.1 innings pitched.

The 24-year-old right-hander was the team’s third-round draft pick in 2016 and is the No. 2 prospect in the D-backs’ system, according to MLB Pipeline.

Clarke went 6.0 innings and allowed two runs in his spot start Tuesday as the D-backs moved starter Zack Godley to the bullpen.
